Translation is my passion. What I like to achieve when I translate is the perfect illusion in both of my working languages. I think of translation as a form of art, a creation of an 'in-between', a text that shows elements of either one or even both worlds. To me, the act of translating is a highly creative and intellectual activity that requires finding solutions for problems related to non-equivalence between languages and cultures.
There are rarely any two translators who share the same educational background and language pair. Many of us translators are experts in a certain professional field and combine our expert knowledge with our acquired linguistic skills. Like many of my colleagues, I favor some translations over others and therefore have a specialization. I frequently review medical reports, I translate works of literature for fun and offer language services with a caring-for-the-community character, such as foreign language tutoring and teaching and consecutive (community) interpreting in healthcare settings.
As an English <> German translator with an MA in Translation and Interpreting from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, I can apply my knowledge and skills and produce results that fit my client's needs. With many years of work experience, I have developed the professional skills to find solutions to translation-related problems and challenges. My focus during the MA program was on translations for the professions and literary translations. Consecutive interpreting, as well as philosophical topics, such as cliche and kitsch, further improved my understanding of translation-related and general writing issues.
